Have you ever been in a yoga class and compared yourself to the person next to you in terms of flexibility, beauty, or getting the pose ‘right’?
Images of the ‘yoga body’ can inspire us to get on the yoga mat but may also deter us from even trying the practice, for fear of not measuring up. To some extent the quest for the body beautiful and the higher reaches of complex poses can inspire us to take up yoga. Yet on the flip side, a yoga media saturated with images of the ideal ‘yoga body’ might deter those of mixed ability who may never achieve this stereotypical form. Being able to go to your grave doing lotus pose or touching your toes may in fact not be the point…
